At the end of another month, we welcomed four new guests who shared their journeys and experiences with us. Jad Deeb is a real-time technical artist and programmer with a strong knowledge of Unreal Engine and Houdini, currently working as a senior technical artist at London based game studio Omeda Studios. Born in Lebanon, Jad moved to the UK a few years ago looking for a better life and opportunities after his native country began experiencing a crisis. It allowed him to pursue his passion for gaming and he enrolled in a foundation course in graphic design followed by a bachelor's in 3D games and animation. He later relocated to the gaming industry, where he is currently employed, developing games and supporting other artists. In this episode, you get an introduction to virtual production and gaming, receive some helpful tips from a seasoned artist and discover more about gaming for PCs and consoles in general. 

 

#26 - George Lolov: Versatile Freelance Filmmaker Working Towards His Dream of Directing

Insight #26 - George Lolov: Filmmaker’s Insight Into Starting on Fiverr as a Freelancer

George Lolov is a freelance filmmaker from London who currently works as a filmmaker and VFX artist with the goal of becoming a director. Born and raised in Bulgaria, he moved to London to attend university and pursue his passion for film. He explored various roles and projects before focusing on screenwriting in his final year to hone his storytelling skills in preparation for a future in directing. Although a global pandemic affected his last year, he had a great start to his career as a freelance filmmaker and VFX artist. Along with working on projects for other businesses, he has been doing freelance work on Fiverr using his VFX skills that he acquired outside of school.  In this episode, you gain helpful advice for aspiring freelancers, learn more about special visual effects that you can create on your own and discover more about the state of the Bulgarian film industry. 

 

#27 - Nathan Stobbs: VFX Artist Devoted to The World of Compositing  

Insight #27 - Nathan Stobbs: VFX Artist’s Introduction to Compositing and Rotoscoping 

Nathan Stobbs is a London based VFX artist specialising in compositing, currently working at VFX studio REALTIME. Since he first experimented with stop-motion animation and became fascinated by visual effects in movies, Nathan has been interested in this area. He enrolled in a VFX course at a university in London, where he helped with a number of projects of film students that even won several awards. In his last year at school, he entered the field early and began developing his compositing abilities in the VFX industry. As we go into greater detail about Nathan's experience at university, he tells some interesting stories about what inspired him to concentrate on compositing and how he got his first VFX job. In this episode, you learn more about some commonly used VFX software, learn about various VFX disciplines and get some helpful advice for aspiring artists and filmmakers.

  

#28 - Íris Santos and Connor McCoy: Artistic Couple Working Towards Greater Visions

Insight #28 - Íris Santos and Connor McCoy: When You Become Part of Something Bigger

Íris Santos and Connor McCoy are a couple of London based 3D artists, working in different industries but both contributing towards something bigger. Originally from Portugal, Íris is a 3D artist with experience in graphic design, games industry and freelance 3D work for NFT projects. Currently employed in the automotive industry at Wayve, bringing autonomous driving to a new level, creating architectural props, building procedural worlds and diving into programming. Born in the UK, Connor McCoy is a Lead 3D artist at First Light Games, working on characters, props and environments. Along with Iris, Connor also explored the realm of NFTs as an artist. Even so, his most recent work is still connected to it as the game being developed by First Light Games promises to serve as a link between the Web 2 and Web 3 communities. In this episode, you hear 3D artists' authentic experiences working with NFTs, be inspired by the exciting visions they are both a part of and to find out more about the 3D art scene.
